Pom-Pomon and Beyond the Great Ho-Ho – The Life’s Work of Ferenc Sajdik

Caricaturist and graphic artist Ferenc Sajdik has had a significant (or rather, playfully insignificant) impact on us…

Caricaturist and graphic artist Ferenc Sajdik has had a significant (or rather, playfully insignificant) impact on us ordinary people through Hungarian animated films. As the illustrator of never-before-seen little animals and whimsical human figures, he created some of the most beloved Hungarian cartoons, such as Pom-Pom or The Great Ho-Ho-Ho Fisherman, both directed by Attila Dargay. Beyond these, he also appears among the contributors to some of the most successful Hungarian animated works, including the Palme d’Or-winning Moto perpetuo.
In the following well-known and lesser-known short films, all created during the golden age of Hungarian animation, the childishly innocent drawings characteristic of Sajdik nevertheless express bitter truths about life.

Schools Across Borders

Films from the partner institutions of MOME Anim.

Greetings from Friends – Graduation Shorts from Partner Schools.

We could have called this selection 'From Our Competitors', since it consists of graduation films premiered at international festivals from schools whose works regularly compete with MOME short films around the world—and who may well attract the most talented students to their master’s programs.
Yet we still choose friendship: we observe and respect each other’s work, inspire one another, exchange experiences, and think in terms of joint projects. We speak the same language—the language of animation—and form an open, friendly community, no matter how different our cultural or social environments may be.

At the same time, it is valuable to compare MOME graduation films with the works of young international creators who are starting their careers at the same moment.

This colorful selection brings together fresh graduation projects—from neighboring countries to the Far East, from puppet animation to experimental and immersive films—all sent by our friends, with greetings to the audience of FrissKakas.

Music Video: Life After MTV

Hungarian animated music videos are experiencing a new golden age, creating striking visual identities for numerous bands in recent years.

Hungarian animated music videos are experiencing a new golden age, creating striking visual identities for numerous bands in recent years. They are often experimental, enriching the world of these musicians with spectacular, sometimes surreal visual universes. The strength of Hungary’s animation clip culture lies precisely in this freedom: it provides space for creative visual storytelling while playfully blending the tools of pop culture and fine art.
